Now with your friends....the backyardigans
I promise we don't watch a lot of TV at our house. It all started with Story. ( I am not blaming, her but thanking her for introducing us to this cute show!)
If you haven't watched it or seen it, then maybe you can't judge me. ( I know, I know, the TV is not a babysitter) What I love about this show is that it is chalk full of singing and dancing (two of my favorite past times). Anyway, Axel's little cousin Story, has all the DVD seasons and when she comes to play always has one with her.
The first time we watched it with her, Axel just stared in awe! He loved it, he was glued and addicted instantly. ( I think mommy was too)
But as he has gotten older, he really gets into it now. He LOVES Pablo (the blue guy, or rather blue penguin)Anyway, He loves him so much that when we put it on he, lifts his arms up at him (which he does when he wants someone to pick him up.) He also does this to me and Story :)
But my point of this post isn't really to disclose all my bad parenting skills/habits, but to give you a little background on our night...
Two nights ago, Axel woke up screaming. He was pretty upset and had a really hard time going back down. So yesterday at lunch he gave me a full grin and I saw this little line on his gum. Later that day I showed it to my sister who confirmed that yes his tooth is coming in! So exciting, and glad we know why he was so upset.
So last night he went down at 7:30 thanks to a little car ride. So we put him to bed right when we got home. Then around 8:30 he woke up again. So we gave him some Tylenol for the pain, but he would not go back down to sleep. He would just cry and cry at everything we tried.
So what did we do? After about an hour or so of us pulling out all our tricks, we got out the computer looked up Backyardigans on Youtube and plopped the whole family on our bed in front of it.
He instantly cheered up. He watched and occasionally would give out a huge sigh with the shivers (you know the kind after you cry a lot). He would flail his arms at Pablo and squeal. Eventually, (like at 11) he started to get all droopy, so I laid him down next to me and he was out.
This video is of him singing with it. (which he also loves to do)

I love how you have him set up in front of the TV - it looks so cozy!! I want one of those bum pillows :) I can't believe he's teething already!!
I promise you we don't have all of them. we only have like 6 and i think there's like 15. i want to get robin hood the clean next, its a cute one. how exciting that he has teeth! Story is getting one as well and did nothing but cry at the in-laws yesterday. the only thing that calmed her down was backyardigans as well.
Amy, you are so wrong. The TV IS a babysitter, and there is nothing wrong with that. And I swear you update your background more often then I update my blog. Can you blog for me for awhile? I've been so sick I can't do anything, let alone blog and I feel that I'm letting my viewers down. I almost called you this weekend to take care of me because Kyle put his foot down after 4 days of me having a cold and said I needed to take care of myself. And as I was lying on the couch starving I thought of Kory and thought, I bet Amy would take care of me :)
haha sarah, its just the only place we have for him to play.
Kassie- you only have 6? My bad, I would love the whole collection. We went to nick jr last night and they have a bunch of songs on there.
Kelli-I totally would have taken care of you, next time come over to my house and we'll set you up. I know your pain. But I wont blog for you. That is asking too much :)
I think the TV is a babysitter, too. It entertains my whole family. And we're all geniuses because of it. Remember when Cole was just beginning to talk and he chose to enlighten everyone he saw with the informational gem: "Flies eat poop."? Yeah. Are you seeing the potential? He's adorable.
That is so cute! I need to get my hands on a few Backyardigans DVD's because I decided to let Shane watch it when it was on TV earlier today and he LoVeD it :) I think the picture where he is raising his arms is AWESOME!
-AND Shane came and found me in the Kitchen today so my days of leaving him on the carpet and doing the dishes alone are OVER!
The tv has become a wonderful babysitter for me recently, it's the only way i can get on the treadmill in the morning.
When Ashdon was getting his first teeth in a cold wet rag really soothed those little gum's he just chewed and chewed on it.
How cute! Julie's girls love that show too. I say that sounds like a great solution to an unhappy baby. Your little Axel is so cute!
That little arm raising bit is so stinkin' adorable. I have to say that my favorite is also the blue penguin. I think he has the most beautiful voice when he sings sometimes. You have a doll for a baby. Sorry about the teething.
Oh and btw, would you stop defending/slamming yourself for letting him watch the Backyardigans. You are an awesome mom and everyone in this day and age uses the t.v. at some time or another. I was just telling Michael that I would pay the full cable bill happily even if the only channel we got was Noggin. It is that important sometimes! You are doing great!
Amy, he is so adorable! I love that you introduced me to that show too! I think it is so cute. We've yet to watch it with Jared, but I think it will be fun for future use. You are such a good mom! :) I think every mom enjoys watching their little one get so excited over a cute show and I also think every mom needs a little break. My mother-in-law always tells me that little ones need time to veg out too, just like adults. :)
...I don't know if this is will be helpful or not, but I tried switching Jared from tylenol to Motrin and it made all the difference for teething and fevering. I don't know if he's old enough yet for it, but for future reference, it might help. :)
